This was a hot political scandal in France. The murder of actor Alain Delon’s Yugoslav bodyguard, who was his wife’s lover, reached right up to the President as it turned into political warfare. This was my first foreign assignment for the S.T. Magazine and I got an exclusive interview with Alain Delon who had not talked to the French press. Why, I don’t know. It was a classic, talking to hookers, political lawyers, gangsters, film directors, French cinema stars. I didn’t know until many years afterwards, when she told me herself, that Nathalie Delon had been in real danger – her car wheels had been loosened and she had been threatened by the Marseilles mob.
